Together they built their dream of "Sherman's"
Taken near the pine trees (obviously). Lake to the rear. The 12 year old kid (white shirt) is Frank Sherman with his father. Together they built their dream of "Sherman's." Notice the trees coming through the roof. The signs above the name Sherman's say "Dancing Every Night - Sunday Afternoon" and "Bill Hughes Orchestra - Utica" The big sign on the right says, " Parking, Tables, Toilets =FREE= To Our Patrons". Some of the early "woodchucks" had no problem taking the tables and toilets, but went nuts trying to figure out how to take the "parking." <grin>
Frank Sherman (12 years) and his Father (1922) I still remember Frank's father, in the early fifties, coming into the pavilion and laying his dime on the counter for a cup of coffee. It's like Disney Land charging Walt Disney an entrance fee - but the Sherman's were all business and 50 years of profits demonstrated this. |
