Maples are the May Flowers of a September Morn
Before the sun came up John Robare, Joe Simone, Bob Toussaint, Chuck Ahearn and I would walk from Johnstown to Fonda via Glebe St. Have coffee at the old Sarris's Restaurant in Fonda. Then hunt our way back home on the FJ&G tracks. Some great hunting off those tracks.
When I first came to California some neighbors took me deer hunting in the Sierra's. There were five of us in a pickup which had a couch in the bed where 3 of us sat as we went up into the mountains..
We drove around the foothills for a couple of hours. When I finally yelled out "when are we gonna stop and hunt"? We ARE hunting!, they said. They actually hunted from a couch on the back of a pickup!
Yikes! They wouldn't survive having a picnic at Sherman's picnic grounds, much less actually hunt out here!
It was the last time I went "hunting."
