Pine Lake in the Early Sixties

Pine Lake had one of the best beaches in the area. Since it was situated on the lee (West) side of the lake, it was mostly calm and a great place for young kids.

Jay Spinak, who ran the chicken farm on the Gloversville-Lake Road, left the coffee shop of the old hunting lodge (rear of pic) to go deer hunting up Kane Mountain. It sits right behind the lodge.

He hadn't gone up the mountain 10 minutes when a deer came running down the trail right to him. Bang! Ten minutes into the season Jay had his deer!

Dance Hall in the Early 30's

Remember the square dancing in the dance hall? Alaman left!  As at Sherman's,  those watching had almost as much fun as those dancing.

Remember the HUGE pot holes in the parking area as you entered? Old Groshans was no dummy. Even with a dirt parking lot there was little, if any, dust raised. Everyone was afraid they'd lose their car, or at least wreck it, in one of those pot holes!
